(Kingston, ON – November 27, 2015) – The annual Empire Life United Way campaign recently wrapped up with employees, retirees and the company donating an impressive $237,000 to benefit United Ways across Canada. The company matched all employee and retiree pledges, dollar for dollar.
“Once again, the generosity and enthusiasm of our employees came through and we raised a substantial amount of money that will help many people in our communities,” said Jordan Grundy, one of the co-chairs of the employee-led campaign. “The company contribution is significant but more than that, this is an employee-led initiative and I’m very proud of the many caring people here who contribute so much of their time, talents and hearts as well as their dollars,” he adds.
The Kingston campaign team focused on raising funds and awareness while ‘pumping up’ the donations and enthusiasm with healthy, fun events such as a silent auction, 50/50 draws, chili cook-offs, a bake sale and a strong man/woman competition. Grundy and his co-chair, Ryan Jeffrey, also took on the persona of “Hanz and Franz” to pump up donations.
Other Empire Life offices in Toronto, Burlington and Montréal also led campaigns to benefit United Ways in their communities. Seventy-six percent of the total raised (almost $180,000) will benefit the United Way of Kingston, Frontenac, Lennox & Addington.
“We want to thank all of our employees as well as the many local businesses who supported our campaign with prize donations and silent auction contributions,” said Ryan Jeffrey. “It was a fantastic effort that we couldn’t achieve without that community support.”
