Michael Perry, Senior Vice President of Group Solutions and Christine Wyatt, Vice President of Group Distribution, are honoured for exceptional leadership in awards sponsored by the Benefits and Pensions Monitor (BPM). BPM is a leading source of news, analysis and insights for professionals in the benefits, pensions, and institutional investment space in Canada.

In January, Michael Perry was named to the BPM Best Benefits, Pensions, and Institutional Investment Professionals in Canada Hot List 2023. The Hot List recognizes leaders who are shaping the benefits, pensions, and institutional investment industry. It includes innovative trailblazers and game-changers who are driving business growth. According to the publication, the inaugural Hot List highlights 43 of the industry’s best professionals whose, “vision, positive influence, and passion are charting new courses.” Award winners in the group benefits space are recognized for, “driving transformation through a revolutionary digital health and benefits system that provides plan members with easy access to health services and a convenient benefits claims submission process.”

Speaking about the award, Perry said, “It’s an exciting time: technology has never been more accessible. It’s so much faster to build solutions today than it was when I started. The challenge is to keep everything integrated and seamless so that we deliver a great customer experience. Doing this requires discipline and teamwork; fortunately, we have both at Empire Life. I believe this award is a recognition of that.”

Perry joined Empire Life in 2016 and has been leading the Group Solutions line of business since 2019. Before joining Empire Life, he spent 20 years in the Canadian banking industry in senior marketing, product, and business effectiveness roles. He also led the creation of new business-to-business insurance product lines, including a suite of employee benefit products.

In March, Christine Wyatt was named to the BPM Elite Women 2024 Award. According to the publication, this award recognizes women who have made significant contributions in their roles, driving meaningful progress and change, breaking down barriers, and raising standards in both business and society. This year’s award winners exemplify innovation, leadership, and the pursuit of gender equity and inclusion. “They are at the forefront of the Canadian financial services sector and have been selected because they lead with authenticity, they value diversity, and they are helping to reshape industry standards for the next generation of women leaders.”

“It’s an honour to be on this list with so many incredible leaders,” said Wyatt.  “I love that quote by Sheryl Sandberg, who said, ‘Leadership is about making others better as a result of your presence and making sure that impact lasts in your absence.’ That’s my goal and I feel incredibly lucky to have had great mentors to show me the way—exemplars who lead with authenticity and value diversity as they drive for results.”

Wyatt joined Empire Life in 2011 and has been leading the Group Solutions distribution team since 2023. She has worked in the industry for over 20 years in senior sales, operations, digital innovation, and partner solutions roles. Before joining Empire Life, she held client service and sales roles at benefits consultancies and another insurance carrier.
